We’re going away – top up the cellar!

Mr & Mrs Moombaki are taking a little 3 week R&R from the 7th – 30th May. Yippee! And the lovely grandparents are going to be running the kids but not the cellar door. However Mel’s dad does love to chat to customers and give big tastings (we’ve tried to tell him not to!) so if you are planning to visit Moombaki cellar door during this time please give Jeff a call (he’ll be at 9840 8006 or 9848 3523, you can leave a message) and he will gladly open the cellar door and a few bottles! Just give him a bit of warning!

If you’d like to organise a delivery before we sneak off, please do so. For 3 days only we have taken $20 off the Special Mixed Case (that’s only $240) and a wee warning we are getting to the tail end of the gorgeous 2008 Cab blend and 2008 Shiraz - just about sold out - so get in quick! Only $300 per dozen. Visit the shop now.

In other news, we now have a new importer in Singapore - so if you know someone who would love to get their hands on some MOOMBAKI in that neck of the woods please contact Arjen Blom at Wine Directions.

Wishing you all the best, and if you need anything special organised please let us know! Cheers Mel & Dave

Save the ol’ girl from the scrap heap!

She’s been with us for 18 years and was here before us, but Betsie is getting a bit unreliable and has given up a few times lately. She refused to see out the job of putting the nets out (sounds like one of the sons!) and she has been coughing a bit and has the odd leak (a fairly regular one actually), so we think she needs a bit of a session in intensive care. Pity Dave’s multitasking doesn’t quite extend to tractor mechanics, but the ol’ girl really does need some work. So we have put together a save the tractor fund and any contributions will be gratefully accepted.

The thing is when you donate you get some delicious wine sent free to your door – that’s a win-win if you ask me. Any wine order will contribute to her upkeep, but we have taken an extra $10 off our special mixed case for this week only to help you rationalise your wine spending. AND we are releasing our superb 2008 Reserve at a special first offer price of $270 per 6 pack (save $10 off per bottle). So hop in quick – one week only! And a big thanks from Betsie!

Hope you have a great week and hopefully you’ll have some wine arriving at your door soon!

Taste Spring in Denmark

Don’t want to hang out with the traffic jams and the Queen in Perth this long weekend? Head down to Denmark for some peace and wine, and foodie love.

On Saturday 29th October the local wineries (including Moombaki), beer brewers, food producers are all coming together under one roof at Willoughby Park with lots of entertainment including masterclasses by Anna Gare and local chefs. And on the Sunday Anna Gare and Silas Masih are coming together for the inaugural Denmark Rustic Sunday Lunch. What a treat!

Fleurieu Art Prize Finalist . . . Melissa Boughey

Our resident painter (that’s Me!) got a huge shock upon finding that she’d been shortlisted as a finalist for the Fleurieu Water Prize. How exciting eh? If you are on our mailing list you’d regularly hear me going on about our healthy wetlands and how we have to look after the whole system . . . well that has all been feeding into my art practice too, ‘cos I find that network of wetlands, tributaries, rivers & swamps pretty inspiring.

Then a few hours later I was hanging out the washing and Dave said “You’ve got another email from Fleurieu” which made me think they’d made a boo boo. But low and behold, another painting I’d entered had been shortlisted for the main Fleurieu Art Prize! I really can’t tell you how ecstatic that made me feel, just to get shortlisted. The funny thing was, I nearly withdrew my entries at the last minute because of a stress attack! Find some more work here.

Country Style feature on MOOMBAKI!

Can you believe it? We’ve been featured in September Country Style with an article about our life in the country. From how we met, to how we got here, and how we try to make a living with our gorgeous wines!

When we were approached by the Country Style editorial team we were pretty excited that they might find us interesting. After all, it’s just what we do! We’ve been living here for 17 years now (gosh!) and raised a family here, and grown a business. And we’ve really hung in when it’s been tough. Each year seems to have new adventures (some of which we’d rather not have to deal with!). I have to say, I love to read about how other people manage their circumstances and how they balance work, family and cash-flow! And you often find there is an underlying creativity and adaptability holding it all together, and an appreciation and respect for the environment.

Grab a copy at your local newsagent and tell someone you’ve already discovered us and love our wines! Here’s a link to the article.

Walpole Wilderness EcoCruise – WOW

For Dave’s birthday this year we took him out on a Walpole Wilderness Cruise – something we’ve been meaning to do for ages! We’ve always heard the best reports about the trip from both locals & tourists and what an amazing job Gary Muir does. All I can say is you have to do it. Gary is so entertaining and brimming with interesting info that he is bursting to tell you in his delightful and unorthodox manner, with conservation values being a highlight. The cuppa and cake was pretty good too, and the kids thought the stingrays in the inlet were pretty awesome & I’m sure they’ll never think of a marsupial in the same way again!

Moombaki featured in SPICE magazine

The winter edition of Spice magazine is full of all that is soulful and real about our WA food and producers. It’s a magazine that is highly regarded in the industry and by all of us who love good food and wine, carefully grown local produce and eating what’s in season.

So we were thrilled when Spice came to visit us on the back of our inclusion in Murdoch Uni’s Resilient Regions program for the second year running. For us it’s always been about building a business from the grassroots up, but at the same time improving our resources: fencing off the river, revegetating natural bushlands, increasing native habitat and the healthy wetlands teeming with life are a prime example of all that. When you buy wine from us you support that biodiversity. Check out the story in Spice! Link here.
