2023 Shiraz

The 2023 Shiraz is produced premium hand-picked parcels of fruit from the pure gravelly soils of our Denmark block. Bright spiced plums and blackberry fruit lead to some richer spice, mocha, and lifted white pepper on the ripe, medium bodied palate. Matured in premium French oak barriques.

Tasting notes

Appearance

A dense inky purple.

Aroma

Vibrant aromas of cherries, blackberry, violets and white pepper complemented by hints of liquorice and spicy, toasted French oak.

Palate

Initial flavours of black cherry and redcurrant lead to a rich complex mid-palate of mocha and plum finishing with fine long tannins and the toasty spice and vanilla of premium French oak barriques.

Cellaring

This wine has the balance and structure to improve with careful cellaring over the next 10 years.

Not a big wine by any stretch but the proportions are excellent. It’s like the difference between standard house design and architectural: most things are effectively the same but somehow everything seems to fit/function better. Black cherry, peppercorn, slips of smoky oak, aged spicy meats. Refreshing acidity and savoury tannin. It just all works.
