2008 Shiraz
Tasting Notes | Awards | Reviews
The 2008 MOOMBAKI Shiraz is sourced from two distinguished Great Southern vineyards: 65% Frankland River and 35% Denmark estate-grown. The fruit from this outstanding vintage was dry-grown and low yielding, producing exceptional parcels of concentrated fruit. Matured for 22 months in premium French oak and bottled using minimal filtration.
A lovely rich palate and fine tannins will allow this wine to continue to improve over the next 10 years.
Appearance
A dense, inky red with purple hues.
Nose
Rich aromas of plum jam, mocha and aniseed are complemented by cooler, more raspberry and peppery characters supported by spicy, toasted French oak.
Palate
Initial flavours of black cherry and mulberry are balanced by a rich mid palate of licorice and dark chocolate finishing with long fine tannins and the toasty spice and vanilla of premium French oak barriques.
Cellaring
This wine has the balance and structure to improve with careful cellaring over the next eight years.

James Halliday 2010 Wine Companion
Deep fruited with cranberry, blackberry, and some dried herb notes; the palate has a savoury, tar-like quality that complements the dark fruit well; chewy tannins and full on the finish. Rating 92/100.
