Australian Small Winemakers Show

The latest round of shows have delivered a Gold for the 2005 Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Malbec in the most prestigious show aimed at fostering excellence in winemaking and viticultural practices in small to medium wineries.

Article, West Australian

It can, at times, be difficult for small producers’ wines to stand out from the crowd when judged at a wine show.

Michael Kerrigan (wine judge and former head winemaker at Howard Park) said in an article in the West Australian (Oct 24 2008) “small and medium winemakers made better and more distinctive wines but struggled to get them on the average Australian’s table as big producers became increasingly more dominant.”

He also talked about the wines from big companies becoming more uniform and not bearing any relation to the land, instead of producing “something that had characters” of a particular place.

And really that’s what we are on about, and what makes looking after your special block so much more important. So, when your wines do well in the industry shows, it’s well worth bragging about! MOOMBAKI has had some excellent representation in amongst the medals – here are some highlights…
